I needed some time alone to make me realize that this whirlwind of a year is finally ending and that I am going back to my ‘normal’ life.
As nice as it sounds to be fed and taken care of back home I know that I needed some time to decompress and reflect on what the past year has been. I got to spend the night in an airport hotel for free courtesy of vueling- though I made the bold choice to stay out exploring Barcelona until pretty late. The trip started off a little rocky as my flight out of Ghana had a 12 hour delay. I just know that I have to be in Paris to catch my flight to LA in a little over a week, and that I am visiting a friend along the way. As per usual, I don’t really have a plan. I’m starting off in Berlin on the hunt for some incredible Christmas markets and to find the best mulled wine ever. It feels so close yet so far away at the same time. We even were able to stop and admire the wildflowers we found on our trip! If I am ever in Las Vegas again, I will absolutely make time to go on another Detours tour, whether it’s back to Death Valley or to some of the other nearby hidden gems.And the journey back to Nevada begins.
My grandmother - who has travelled internationally for decades - has not stopped raving about what an amazing experience our tour was, and has repeatedly called it “one of the highlights of my life, and that’s in large part because of our guide.” The tour was personal, informative, and breathtaking. His appreciation for the park was obvious and makes me want to go back to explore even further. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and able to adapt our trip to fit my grandmother’s mobility issues while still showing us all of the best sites in Death Valley. Our tour guide, James Phelps, was incredible and made our whole trip. I am SO grateful to have found Detours! I took my 85 year old grandmother to Las Vegas for a day trip to Death Valley because she had never been and always wanted to go.
